Angling Direct appoints new chief financial officer
Fishing tackle and equipment retailer Angling Direct has appointed Sam Copeman as group chief financial officer.
Due to join the business on 5 June, he will become part of the retailer’s board on conclusion of its AGM on 22 June.
Copeman most recently led the trade sale of global sports consultancy Esportif to the Wasserman sports, music, and entertainment agency. Prior to that, he held senior finance roles across a variety of industries within private equity and privately owned businesses, including 3sun Group, EV and Eclipse Petroleum Technology.
The AGM will also see Angling Direct’s board succession plan being enacted and will include Andy Torrance stepping down from his role as chief executive and becoming non-executive chairman. He will be succeeded as chief executive by Steve Crowe who is moving from his current role of chief financial officer. In addition, Martyn Page will relinquish his role of non-executive chairman but will remain on the board as a non-executive director.
Crowe added: “I am pleased that Sam is joining Angling Direct to take over from me as CFO as I make the transition to CEO. I am confident that having met a number of high profile candidates, Sam is the right person for the job and that his experience across a variety of senior finance roles will be complementary as we work together with Andy and the board to deliver the next phase of growth.”
