2022’s Top 20 B2B Ecommerce Retailers Revealed

The launch of the B2B Top 50 Ecommerce Report has revealed which B2B ecommerce brands to watch in 2022.

The report has been published by customer engagement platform Dotdigital and ecommerce growth agency Fluid Commerce to help retailers compare their performance and discover which brands are leading the pack.

Analysing 50 leading brands that use Magento or Adobe Commerce, the report assesses the performance of each website against a series of ecommerce best practice criteria. This produces an individual score for each company, plus an average benchmark score for the B2B sector as a whole.

With several brands moving up – and down – the rankings when compared to the 2021 report, the report shows that most B2B brands must invest in modernising and upgrading their websites quickly if they are to catch up with the ecommerce sector as a whole.

Adam Hindle, Managing Director of Fluid Commerce, said: “The average score for all the retailers featured in the 2022 B2B report was 54%. In comparison, the average score in our Health & Beauty report was 61%, and the Home & Garden report gave retailers an average score of 67%. As our reports score merchants for ecommerce best practice, this low score flags how far behind the B2B sector is, and should be taken as a strong wake-up call for retailers to invest in upgrading and modernising their websites. Without this investment, they are at risk of falling behind.”

Despite the low average score, four notable retailers moved up the ranks when compared to the previous year’s B2B report:

  • CoolMed moved up from #29 to second place
  • Suregreen moved up from #30 to third place
  • Craigmore moved up from #31 to fifth place
  • Blake Envelopes moved up an impressive 67 places, from #85 to #18

Gavin Laugenie, Global Head of Content at Dotdigital, says: “Despite being slow to adopt B2C practices, it’s safe to say B2B ecommerce is here to stay and only growing stronger. Recent years have caused a dramatic shift in the way B2B brands think about the sales cycle.”

“It’s brilliant to see so many B2B ecommerce marketers already embracing this new  way of working. The movers and shakers in this year’s report demonstrate the positive impact that can come from a couple of changes to the UX of a website.”

The report judged online B2B retailers based on qualities such as speed and security, trust, navigation, product pages, checkout and payment, delivery and returns, and community.

Featuring leading brands such as Cablecraft, Powertool World, Tuggerman and MyToolShed.co.uk, research in the report reveals:

  • The top 20 retailers
  • What makes for an outstanding product page
  • How to create a checkout experience that delivers
  • Who leads the pack for navigation and UX
