Record shops invited to be part of BBC Radio 6 Music Festival

Independent record shops across the north of England are being invited to apply to take part in the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Manchester next month.

Taking place on Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March 2014, the two day event will include a record store fair.

Independent record stores in Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, East Riding of Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, South Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear and West Yorkshire are being invited to apply for a stall. The stalls will be allocated by a panel of experts which will be made up of representatives from the Entertainment Retailers Association and the BBC.

ERA director general Kim Bayley said: “Independent record shops are the heart and soul of the music community and BBC Radio 6 Music has provided a great platform for our members to showcase their stores to a wider audience. We know that this event will resonate with our members, who will be a great addition, to what is set to be an amazing two days of music and culture.”

BBC Radio 6 Music editor James Stirling added: “BBC Radio 6 Music listeners and the Record Shop were made for one another. Despite the digital revolution, there is something magical about actually buying a new album, so it’s fantastic that a number of UK record stores will be at the heart of the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival.”
