Home Bargains eyes rescue of historic Denby pottery brand
Home Bargains is considering a rescue of the historic Denby pottery brand following its collapse into administration.
According to Sky News, the discount retailer is mulling a deal to acquire the Denby brand and some other assets.
Subscribe to TRBDenby entered administration at the end of March after struggling against higher costs and weak consumer spending.
Since then, FRP Advisory has continued to trade the business, although manufacturing operations ceased in April which resulted in around 50 redundancies.
Founded in 1809 by William Bourne and his son Joseph, Denby is based in a village of the same name in Derbyshire from where it produced tableware from locally sourced clay.
Owned by the Morris family’s holding company TJ Morris, Home Bargains operates hundreds of stores across the UK and has ambitions to grow further.
Denby’s subsidiaries in South Korea, China and the US were not affected by the appointment of administrators.
