Tesco first major UK supermarket to sell range of braille Valentine’s cards

Tesco is helping all shoppers treat that special someone in their lives with the launch of braille Valentine’s Day cards.

With more than two million people living with sight loss in the UK*, the launch brings love to life in a more inclusive way this Valentine’s Day.

To help those with visual impairments celebrate, Tesco has launched the range of accessible cards starting at just £1.50. With cards featuring dedications to ‘My Husband’, and ‘My Wife’, and declarations of love with ‘Be Mine?’, anyone feeling the romance is encouraged to share the moment on the 14th February.

The range also includes cards to the ‘One I Love’ and ‘Amazing Friend’, so customers can gift cards to all the special people in their lives.

The cards, which are created by Hallmark, were produced in collaboration with Royal National Institute of Blind People, and have varied sensory features including different feel, texture and pattern work in addition to the braille. Whether the card giver, receiver or both have visual impairments, the range provides an affordable and accessible option for Valentine’s Day.

Stephanie Burrows Assistant Buyer for cards says: “At Tesco, our customers are at the heart of everything we do, so it’s important we make a continued effort to build an inclusive and accessible product range to meet their needs.

“We’re always listening to feedback and know cards are an area where more diversity and inclusiveness is desperately needed for better representation of us all. We’ve recently been adding more LGBTQIA+, disability and ethnicity cards across many of our card ranges, and we’re delighted to share them with our customers and look forward to hearing their feedback.”

Tesco was the first Supermarket to launch braille cards in June 2021 as part of the Everyday range.
