ALDI Leads innovation in automated logistics, offering 95 new job opportunities in the North

As part of a major initiative to upgrade one of its northern warehouses with a cutting-edge IT system, supermarket giant Aldi has launched a recruitment drive for 95 logistics professionals.

The AHEAD project is a key component of Aldi’s global strategy to modernise its systems and business operations with leading-edge technology. This transformation is scheduled to become operational this summer.

The upgrade will enhance collaboration between the business and IT departments and accelerate the deployment of IT solutions and processes.

Gavin McMurtry, Warehouse Operations Director, stated: “In today’s fast-evolving world, where technology advancements are constant, competition is ever-increasing, and customer needs are perpetually changing, it’s crucial to stay ahead. By implementing advanced automated systems, we aim to streamline operations for our warehouse staff, enhance efficiency in routine tasks, and stay abreast of shifts in the food retail sector. This initiative will not only modernise our workflows and procedures but also generate employment in the region. We are thrilled to roll out these advancements at the Goldthorpe Distribution Centre this summer.”

Aldi plans to fill 95 logistics roles at the Goldthorpe Distribution Centre, with positions including 63 daytime Warehouse Selectors, 21 nighttime Warehouse Selectors, and 11 Logistics Assistants.

In addition to its leading healthcare and benefits package, paid parental leave, ample holiday allowance of 28 days per year, and various lifestyle benefits, Aldi announced a substantial pay rise for all staff members in December 2023, effective from February. Therefore, the new warehouse employees will earn between £11.19 and £16.48 per hour, reflecting Aldi’s position as the highest-paying supermarket and offering significant career progression opportunities, training, and salary increments.

Kelly Stokes, HR Director at Aldi, added: “As we adopt these innovative technologies and methodologies, we are eager to find individuals in the South Yorkshire area who are keen learners with a proactive mindset. It’s imperative that our team members are prepared to evolve alongside our company. At Aldi, our people are central to our mission, and we acknowledge their vital contribution to our success. We are excited to welcome potential new team members and to drive the exceptional progress we’ve envisioned.”
