Greggs opens first supermarket ‘Bitesize Greggs’ at Tesco in Southwark
Greggs has opened its first supermarket Bitesize Greggs at a Tesco superstore in London’s Southwark.
The move forms part of the food-to-go retailer’s rollout of a smaller shop format, which enables it to reach more customers by opening compact units in prime, high-footfall locations.
Subscribe to TRBOpen seven days a week, the store on Dunston Road offers products such as sausage rolls, steak bakes, sweet treats and Fairtrade hot drinks.
Greggs has previously opened Bitesize Greggs locations at London Bridge Station, Sevenoaks Railway Station, Dartford Station and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.
The company is also continuing to open its traditional, larger shops as part of its growth plans. In 2026, Greggs expects to open around 100 to 110 net new shops, as it continues to target 3,500 UK shops over the longer term, supported by investment in supply chain capacity.
Tony Rowson, property director at Greggs, said: “We’re delighted to announce the opening of our first ‘Bitesize Greggs’ within a supermarket at Tesco Southwark Superstore.
“Our Bitesize format allows us to bring Greggs to more customers from compact units in convenient, high-footfall locations, while still offering a selection of our best-selling products.
“This new opening is an exciting next step as part of our broader ambition to make Greggs even more accessible to customers across the UK.”
Liam Wagstaff, retail partnership manager at Tesco, said: “We’re always looking for ways to make the shopping trip even more convenient for our customers, and we’re pleased to welcome the first supermarket ‘Bitesize Greggs’ at our Southwark Superstore.
“Now customers can pick up all their Greggs favourites while popping in to do their weekly shop, offering even greater convenience.”
