WH Smith begins process to recruit next chair

WH Smith is understood to have started a process to identify a successor to its current chairman Henry Staunton.

According to Sky News, the book and stationery retailer has begun approaching potential candidates through headhunting firm Lygon Group.

Staunton has sat on the WH Smith board since 2010 and has been chairman since 2013. This means he has ‘timed out’ with regard to corporate governance and City best practice terms.

A former finance director of Granada and ITV and chairman of Phoenix Group Holding, he was appointed as chairman of Capital and Counties Properties in June 2018.
