The Works appoints Nick Wharton as non-executive director

The Works has appointed former Dunelm chief executive Nick Wharton as a non-executive director.

Wharton has extensive retail experience after also serving as chief financial officer at Pepco Group, Superdry and Halfords. He is currently a non-executive director and audit committee chair at AG Barr, Oriflame Investment Holding and Mears Group, and has  previously been a non-executive director at Mothercare.

At The Works he is replacing Harry Morley who joined the retailer’s board in 2018.

Wharton said: “This is an exciting time to join The Works – the business has made significant strategic and financial progress in the last year and there is a clear opportunity for further growth in the years ahead.

“I look forward to working alongside the rest of the board and supporting the management team to deliver its ‘Elevating The Works’ strategy.”

Steve Bellamy, chair of The Works, said: “Nick has very relevant sector and plc experience, and I am confident that the business will benefit from his expertise as we continue to capitalise on growth opportunities, deliver our strategic priorities and increase shareholder value.”

Last month, The Works reported that its pre-tax profit had increased by 20.3% to £8.3 million in the year to 4 May.
