John Lewis teams up with Uber Eats on rapid delivery pilot

John Lewis has teamed up with Uber Eats to launch a rapid delivery pilot for customers purchasing nursery, premium beauty and gifting products.

The move will enable shoppers within an 8km radius of the John Lewis shops in Leeds and Stratford to order from a selection of 150 products directly through the Uber Eats app, with items being delivered in as little as 30 minutes.

Products sold via Uber Eats will be price the same as in John Lewis stores, online and through the retailer’s app and will uphold the retailer’s ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ price promise.

Stella Winklewska, category lead at John Lewis, said: “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour.

“It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”

The pilot will enable the companies to understand customer demand, purchasing behaviours, and operational logistics before a wider national rollout. It will run through to early September.

Alex Troughton, head of retail at Uber Eats, EMEA, said: “We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes.

“By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike.”
