Hobbycraft owner explores potential sale of the business
The owner of Hobbycraft is understood to be exploring a potential sale of the business following an approach from a prospective buyer.
According to a report by Sky News, Modella Capital is preparing to appoint advisers to manage interest from potential suitors.
Subscribe to TRBThe private equity firm acquired the arts and crafts retailer from Bridgepoint in 2024.
The news site said the identity of the potential buyer remains unclear, although its sources expect it to prompt a comprehensive process to find a new owner.
Modella Capital also owns the TG Jones chain of stores after acquiring WH Smith’s high street business in 2025 and renaming it. It has also acquired and restructured Claire’s and The Original Factory Shop in the last 12 months which were subsequently put into administration.
Hobbycraft’s revenues grew by 6.3% in the six weeks to 28 December which was partly driven by its partnership with Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley driving sales of beginner crochet and embroidery sets.
