Cyber attacks: Co-op staff asked to turn on cameras in remote meetings as M&S pauses recruitment
Co-op has asked its staff to keep their cameras on during remote meetings as it deals with the impact of an ongoing cyber attack which began at the weekend.
Published by ITV, an internal email sent to 70,000 staff requests that team members also verify all participants in order to prevent unauthorised access.
In addition, remote access to parts of Co-op’s back-office systems has been restricted and employees have been advised against recording or transcribing virtual meetings.
Despite the the measures, Co-op’s stores and funeral homes are continuing to operate normally.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Meanwhile, M&S has paused recruiting staff as it deals with the impact of its own cyber attack. The retailer has posted a note on its website which states: “Sorry you can’t search for apply for roles right now, we’re working hard to be back online as soon as possible”. There are also currently no jobs listed on its recruitment pages.
The retailer’s IT systems were hit by a major ransomware attack over a week ago which resulted in the retailer pausing online orders and stock availability in stores being reduced. Contactless payments were also affected although these have now been restored.
The incident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.
