Sainsbury’s to extend store opening hours in week before Christmas

Sainsbury’s is to extend its opening hours in the week before Christmas to help customers shop “early and safely” during the coronavirus pandemic.

Between 21 and 23 December, 90% of Sainsbury’s shops will be opening from 6am to midnight.

The supermarket is also encouraging customers to shop early and alone to help minimise queuing and to make the shopping experience smoother and quicker.

In addition, Sainsbury’s is awarding extra Nectar points to customers who shop early between 4 to 13 December for longer life, store cupboard products such as cranberry sauce, crackers and Christmas puddings.

Clodagh Moriarty, retail and digital director at Sainsbury’s, said: “In a year like no other, we want to do everything we can to help our customers celebrate Christmas, making sure they have everything they need to make the festive season as special as possible.

“We also want to make sure customers and colleagues are kept safe, which is why we’re opening our stores for longer and encouraging people to shop early and asking them to shop alone, where possible, this Christmas. This will help customers get in and out of shops quickly and safely and make sure everyone has what they need in plenty of time for the big day.”
