Sainsbury’s switches laundry detergent from plastic to cardboard

Sainsbury’s has launched new laundry liquid detergent packaging to help customers reduce their use of plastic at home.

The change has been applied to the retailer’s own-brand 750ml laundry detergents which previously had sleeved plastic bottle packaging with cardboard cartons. The products are available across Sainsbury’s tropical super concentrated, bio super concentrated, non-bio super concentrated, colour super concentrated and lavender super concentrated lines.

With customers able to recycle the packaging at the kerbside or recycling banks, Sainsbury’s said the move will help to save around 22 tonnes of plastic annually.

Sainsbury’s has committed to halving its use of own brand plastic packaging by 2025.
