Sainsbury’s opens new store at London City Island

Sainsbury’s has become the only supermarket brand to open a store at London City Island.

The convenience store sits in the heart of a new residential development by Ballymore.

Selling a range of fresh food and convenience products, the shop also features an in-store Costa coffee machine.

The store has created 21 new jobs and will trade from 7am to 11pm seven days a week.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s property director, said: “Sainsbury’s is excited to be joining this unique and exciting London development. We’re proud to have delivered a neighbourhood shopping experience that will meet the needs of London City Island well into the future. This store provides residents and visitors with a safe, fresh and convenient shopping destination.”

The opening saw dancers from the neigbouring English National Ballet attend a ribbon cutting ceremony with  Sainsbury’s staff.

Asraf Bhuiyan, Sainsbury’s London City Island Local store manager, said: “The store looks fantastic and we’re delighted to open the doors and meet our new customers. The team is really looking forward to getting to work.”
