M&S opens expanded food store at Heathrow Terminal 5
Marks & Spencer has opened its expanded airside M&S Food store in Heathrow Terminal 5 as it looks to grow its food presence in new types of locations.
Almost double the size of the pilot store that opened last summer, the bigger space has enabled M&S to bring its Picky Bits range and in-store bakery airside for the first time.
Subscribe to TRBM&S said the expanded store is designed to meet passengers’ needs before they fly by offering quality food for the journey, including sandwiches, wraps, salads, sushi, fruit, chilled snacking and drinks, as well as British treats and gifts to take overseas.
The range also includes items such as the Nutrient Dense Berry Bliss Bowl, High Protein Smoky Bean & Egg Pot, and salads like the Super Nutty Wholefood Salad, following customer insight revealing that 45% of passengers struggle to find healthy food in airports.
M&S Food’s wider convenience growth strategy is currently focused on opening in high footfall locations where customers want food on the move.
Alex Freudmann, managing director at M&S Food, said: “Our food growth strategy is about making M&S more relevant, more often wherever customers are shopping. Heathrow has shown the opportunity to bring our fresh food, food on the move and much-loved M&S gifting range into new locations and customer missions.
“After a successful first year airside, this bigger store brings an in-store bakery with freshly baked products throughout the day, alongside customer favourites like Picky Bits, giving us even more confidence in the role travel locations can play as we continue to grow the convenience arm of the food business.”
Ross Baker, chief customer officer at Heathrow, said: “As one of the UK’s most trusted and well-loved brands, M&S has proved hugely popular with our passengers, and we’re delighted to welcome a permanent M&S Food store to Terminal 5, offering even greater choice and convenience.”
