Lidl sees quiche sales soar in run-up to coronation weekend

Lidl has reported a surge in sales of items such as quiche and champagne in the run-up to the coronation.

Sales of the supermarket’s premium Deluxe Quiches have climbed by 33% in the past month as shoppers take inspiration from King Charles and the Queen Consort’s official recipe.

Meanwhile sales of Lidl’s Chef Select Mini Scotch Eggs  and Chef Select Mini Melton Mowbray Pork Pies have risen by a respective 15% and 10% month-on-month.

Lidl said shoppers are also stocking up on champagne with sales up by nearly 50% during the same period. Other popular items include the supermarket’s Coronation mugs with one sold every five seconds on their first day of sale.

A Lidl GB spokesperson said: “While it’s clear that Lidl shoppers have already started getting in their celebratory essentials, there’s still ample opportunity for those who have left it until now to get what they need for the weekend’s festivities. From picnic essentials to street party favourites, and premium produce that will add a touch of regal flair to any dinner party, Lidl customers will be able to eat like Kings and Queens, without needing a royal budget.”
