Greggs saves five million meals from going to waste across the UK
Greggs has prevented more than five million meals from going to waste across the UK through its partnership with Too Good To Go.
The food-to-go retailer teamed up with Too Good To Go in 2021 in a move that allows customers to rescue surplus food from over 2,000 shops across the UK. Each bag includes fresh food nearing its sell-by date, offered at a reduced price. To take part, customers download the Too Good To Go app, find their nearest Greggs, reserve a bag, and collect it at a pre-set time.
As the partnership continues to grow, Greggs and Too Good To Go are planning to launch a new Surprise Bag trial from the end of May in select locations across the east of England.
The collaboration supports the Greggs Pledge sustainability plan in which the retailer has committed reducing food surplus by 25% on 2018 levels.
Never Miss a Retail Update!A spokesperson from Greggs said: “At Greggs, we believe great food should never go to waste, and hitting the milestone of five million Surprise Bags saved with Too Good To Go is something we’re incredibly proud of.
“This partnership supports our Greggs Pledge to reduce food surplus and make a positive impact on the planet. Together with Too Good To Go, we’re helping to fight food waste while offering our customers great value every day.”
Sophie Trueman, country director UK & Ireland, Too Good To Go, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of this milestone of five million Surprise Bags saved with Greggs.
“Reducing food waste is a real team effort and it’s only made possible by working with partners like this iconic British food brand. Every bag saved moves us one step closer to tackling climate change and we are thankful to our partner and consumers for being part of that journey.”
