Uniqlo to open new stores in Islington and Watford

Uniqlo has signed to be an anchor tenant at the redeveloped Angel Central shopping centre in Islington.

The 15,500 square store is set to open in late 2019. The two floor unit will sit opposite H&M and sell the brand’s  ‘LifeWear’ range.

Take Morikawa, chief executive at Uniqlo EU, said: “It’s a privilege to be opening at North London’s most popular retail and leisure destination, with such a strong footfall and an exciting refurbishment, Angel Central is a very attractive location.”

The redevelopment is being carried out to boost the retail offering at the centre. There will also be a range of new food and beverage outlets and upgraded customer facilities.

Commenting on the signing, Laura Wilson-Brown, head of asset management UK at CBRE Global Investors, said: “Uniqlo has firmly established itself as a leader in the retail marketplace. They will be a very popular addition to the scheme for our customers and the local community.”

Uniqlo is also planning to open a store at the Intu Watford shopping centre. The shop will be its fourth store outside of London.

The shopping centre has recently completed a 400,00 square foot extension as part of plans to build the “best mix of brands” for Watford. Others retailers that have taken space within extension include the likes of Hugo Boss, Zara, H&M and Hollister.

Rebecca Ryman, regional managing director at Intu, said: “Intu Watford is now home to some of the biggest and most popular retailers in the world, including H&M, Zara and Uniqlo, and an excellent line-up of restaurants and leisure operators, creating a thriving day and night out destination for the centre’s rapidly growing footfall.”
