Uniqlo launches recycled clothing initiative

Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo has launched a new scheme to help customers give unwanted old clothing a new lease of life.

Under the Re. Uniqlo initiative, the company will collect pre-worn Uniqlo items from customers to be recycled as part of new products.

The company has been collecting pre-worn Uniqlo items from customers in Japan for recycling since last September and will be launching new down jackets that contain rejuvenated down taken from 620,000 jackets on 2 November.

Christophe Lemaire, artistic director of the Uniqlo Paris R&D Centre, said: “My personal commitments are aligned with the goals of Re. Uniqlo. The ‘Uniqlo U’ recycled own jacket represents Uniqlo and my own continued dedication to sustainability.”
