Seasalt hails strong Christmas performance

Lifestyle clothing brand Seasalt saw its sales climb by 20% year-on-year in the run-up to Christmas following record in-store sales.

In the five weeks to 1 January, sales were also up significantly on 2019 with a rise of 33%.

The retailer said sales in its shops, which are situated mainly in market towns and seaside locations, increased by 81% on the corresponding period in the prior year. Online sales were also strong and accounted for 56% of revenue.

Malcolm Macdonald, Seasalt chief financial officer, said: “The strong store performance over Christmas is a continuation of the theme we have seen since they reopened in April. We are very happy with the balance the business now enjoys from its complementary mix of a strong store portfolio and marketplace partners supporting the direct to consumer online retail channel.”

Seasalt is now looking forward to future expansion which will include growing its UK customer base, developing its menswear range and extending the business overseas.

The retailer is now expecting total sales for the year ending 29 January to come in at around £100 million.
