Barbour and Oxfam partner for charitable jacket rental scheme at Glastonbury Festival

Barbour, the British heritage outerwear brand, has announced a unique partnership with Oxfam to offer a sustainable and charitable rental service at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Festival-goers will have the opportunity to rent upcycled, pre-loved Barbour jackets, with all proceeds supporting Oxfam’s efforts to combat global poverty.

The “Barbour Re-Loved” initiative allows attendees to rent a piece of British heritage for the festival weekend. Each jacket can be rented for £45, providing an eco-friendly and stylish option for those looking to stay warm and dry. At the festival’s conclusion, renters have the choice to return or purchase their jackets, further supporting Oxfam’s mission.

Barbour’s dedicated team in South Shields has meticulously cleaned, repaired, and re-waxed each secondhand jacket, ensuring they are festival-ready. In a nod to Glastonbury’s vibrant history, many jackets incorporate materials and fabrics from past festival merchandise, making each piece truly unique. Additionally, festival-inspired Re-Loved bucket hats will be available for £39, complete with a collectable pin badge commemorating the collaboration.

Paul Wilkinson, Group Commercial Director of Barbour, emphasised the circularity aspect of the initiative: “A key part of circularity is to keep products in use longer, thereby reducing impact per wear and the need for new resources. We believe that this rental scheme provides a very affordable and accessible service, enabling customers to easily rent jackets at the Festival should the weather be inclement or they just need a coat for chilly evenings.”

Michael Lever, Oxfam’s Head of Festivals and Events, highlighted the dual benefit of the scheme: “Not only do the Re-Loved jackets look fantastic, but by recirculating clothes, we can help reduce the demand for new clothes and, in turn, help to reduce the damage to our planet. All the money raised through the Barbour Re-Loved scheme at Glastonbury will go towards Oxfam’s crucial work to tackle poverty around the world – so festival-goers can look and feel good at the same time.”

With the wax Barbour jacket already an emblematic feature of Glastonbury’s fashion landscape, this innovative rental service offers a sustainable choice for attendees, marrying style with social consciousness.

As the festival season approaches, Barbour and Oxfam’s collaboration sets a precedent for eco-friendly initiatives within the event industry, aligning timeless fashion with charitable impact.
