Dixons Carphone delivers strong sales in all markets

Dixons Carphone has said it delivered strong sales in all of its markets in the 17 weeks to 29 August.

In the UK and Ireland, the retailer’s electrical like-for-like sales climbed by 12%, although sales in its Dixons Travel stores, which are still mainly closed, dropped by around 90%.

Meanwhile, online sales more than tripled in the period and have continued at more than double last year’s sales since the retailer’s stores reopened following the Covid-19 lockdown.

Alex Baldock, Dixons Carphone group chief executive, said: “We’ve continued to trade strongly and safely, and that’s thanks to my colleagues: I’m full of gratitude and admiration for their expert dedication throughout a challenging time.

“Online has continued to power ahead: in the UK & Ireland alone we grew online sales by more than £500 million in four months, growth that stayed strong even as stores reopened. We will continue to help everyone enjoy amazing technology, however they choose to shop with us, at scale and in ways that other retailers cannot match.”

Looking at Dixons Carphone’s international business, like-for-like revenue rose by a respective 12% and 17% in Greece and the retailer’s  Nordics region in the period. The company is currently exploring a potential listing of a minority stake in its Nordics business next year.
