John Lewis sales down 0.5% last week

The John Lewis department store chain saw its total sales edge down 0.5% year-on-year last week to £87.1 million.

Electricals and home technology sales had a strong week with sales rising by 2.8%. Categories putting in standout performances included vision and small electricals where sales climbed by 5.8% and 6.9% respectively. Wearable technology also fared well with sales up 52%.

Fashion sales increased by 1% with both John Lewis casual and formalwear performing well.

Meanwhile, home sales were down 5.5% in the week with the decline partly due to the annualising of price match promotions in the same week last year. There were strong performances in the beds and outdoor living categories, however, where sales climbed by 4.7% and 8.5% respectively.
