JD to open new store in Merthyr Tydfil

Sports fashion retailer JD is to expand its presence in Wales with the addition of a new upsized store at Cyfarthfa Retail Space in Merthyr Tydfil.

Due to open on 25 February, the shop will stock brands such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Fred Perry, Lacoste, Boss, EA7 and Napapijri.

The bigger shop will also allow the introduction of a wider range of street/fashion items including an extended collection of Hoodrich products. In addition, Mercier will be available to Welsh shoppers for the very first time.

The new store will span 8,345 square feet of ground floor retail space.

Cyfarthfa is the 33rd largest retail venue in the UK and attracts 3.6 million visitors each year.

JD is encouraging shoppers to head to the new store on the opening weekend where a JD-branded truck will be parked outside to welcome them and provide free customisation with any footwear purchase across the weekend.

James Air, head of group acquisitions at JD said: “It has been a pleasure to work on our exciting new store at Cyfarthfa Shopping Park in Merthyr, where we are doubling the size of our previous space. We are confident that the new store will be one of the best of its type within the UK, and would like to thank our partners at Brookfield Properties for working so closely with us on the project.”
