Charles Tyrwhitt delivers 16% average energy savings through LoweConex partnership
Menswear specialist Charles Tyrwhitt has taken a major step forward in its sustainability journey, achieving average daily energy savings of 16.87% across its store estate following the rollout of Conex OS, a centralised building data platform.
The British retailer, founded in 1986 and known for its focus on quality menswear, has long placed sustainability at the heart of its operations. Since 2021, the business has committed to cutting organisational emissions by 5% each year, a target it continues to meet as a five-time Planet Mark-certified company.
Unlocking efficiency across the estate
With a large portion of its emissions linked to energy use in stores, Charles Tyrwhitt identified HVAC systems as a major challenge. Siloed control systems, limited asset visibility, and rising energy costs were making it difficult to identify savings opportunities and curb unnecessary consumption.
To address this, the retailer partnered with LoweConex to install IoT gateways across disconnected HVAC units and integrate them into Conex OS. Combining Conex OS with the specialist LoweConex Bureau, Charles Tyrwhitt could leave the asset optimisation estate-wide to LoweConex, delivering the outcome of ongoing energy savings to experts in industry.
This allowed Charles Tyrwhitt and LoweConex to collect real-time performance data, diagnose issues quickly, and implement automation rules designed to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable in-store environment.
Rapid results and measurable impact
The investment has already delivered measurable business benefits, with savings equating to the environmental impact of running 2.4 stores entirely off-grid for 12 months. Crucially, the solution also enabled cost savings with a return on investment achieved within 18 months.
Gareth Strangwood, Director of Distribution & Facilities at Charles Tyrwhitt, commented:
“As we set targets to reduce emissions and energy waste, we noticed HVAC was a significant contributor to consumption. LoweConex enabled us to connect those assets in a cost-effective way where BMS was unsuitable, in turn lowering capital expenditure and enabling scalable two-way control to eliminate waste.”
A model for sustainable retail
For Charles Tyrwhitt, the collaboration with LoweConex is part of a broader strategy to future-proof its retail operations. By combining smart data insights with automation, the retailer is cutting both emissions and costs while reinforcing its reputation for quality and responsibility.
The case demonstrates how technology-driven innovation can play a vital role in helping retailers accelerate progress towards their sustainability goals while continuing to deliver for customers.
