Joseph Cheaney opens Coal Drops Yard store

Shoemaker Joseph Cheaney has opened a store at the new Coal Drops Yard retail development in London’s King’s Cross.

Designed by Checkland Kindleysides, the look and feel of the store complements the architectural aesthetic of Coal Drops Yard and its industrial railway heritage, whilst respecting the existing fabric of the building.

Spanning 75 square metres, the shop offers a selection of shoes and boots for men and women, with collections ranging from the classic to the contemporary.

In addition to selling shoes, the shop features a ‘polishing station’ where Cheaney’s staff ‘finger polish’ customers’ shoes to achieve the perfect mirror-shine.

The store also features a large portrait of Joseph Cheaney who founded the business over 230 years ago.

Having visited the site in its early stages of development, William Church, joint managing director of Joseph Cheaney, said: “Cheaney and Coal Drops Yard have much in common – deep heritage combined with a contemporary overlay to excite the adventurous consumer.”

The store is situated at unit 33 Coal Drops Yard and will be open seven days a week.
