John Lewis expands its at home concept
John Lewis has announced that it will open a new John Lewis at home store in Tamworth in autumn 2011.
The retailer said it had committed to investing £7 million in the ‘at home’ format in Tamworth. The new store will create around 200 new jobs in the local area.
The 42,000 sq ft store will focus on selling furniture, furnishing accessories, electrical and home technology, and will be located on the Ventura Retail Park, a prime retail location just north of Birmingham.
Andy Street, Managing Director, John Lewis, said: “Research has shown that customers would prefer greater convenience and ease of access to our inspiring products, great value and exceptional service. The confirmation that we will open John Lewis at home in Tamworth is testament to our commitment to deliver this to shoppers both in the West Midlands and across the UK."
He continued: “We believe our Tamworth shop will complement our full line department store in Solihull and will provide our customers with a broader, more convenient shopping offer. We’re looking forward to consolidating our position in the West Midlands even further when we open our full line department store in Birmingham city centre in 2014.”
The John Lewis at home concept successfully launched in Poole in October 2009. A further three shops opened in 2010 in Croydon, Swindon and Tunbridge Wells and a further three will open in 2011. A Newbury store will open in 2012.
