Games Workshop posts surge in profits

In the year to 28 May, pre-tax profit increased to £38.4 million from £16.9 million in the previous year.

Meanwhile, revenues climbed to £158.1 million from a previous £118 million.

Kevin Rountree, chief executive of Games Workshop, said: "We've had another fun and exciting year and made significant progress on our strategic initiatives. You can see from these results that our business and our hobby are in good shape.”

At the year end, Games Workshop had 462 stores in 23 countries, 360 of which were one-man stores. The company also sells to third-party retailers.

During the year, the company opened 31 stores including 14 relocated stores. A few pilot stores were launched in high footfall locations such as London’s Tottenham Court Road, Sydney and Copenhagen, all of which performed well.

Looking ahead Rountree said: “The board continues to believe that the prospects for the business are good."
