Debenhams is on to a winner with Grand National Ladies Day

Debenhams stores in Liverpool and the North West have reported a run on stock of their beauty products in the lead up to the Grand National.

Sales have rocketed in popularity over the last week resulting in extra shipments being rushed to stores to cope with the demand. Fake tan sales are reportedly up by a whopping 124%, false eyelashes are up by an eye-watering 396%, lip gloss is up 220%, while bronzer is up a staggering 487%. Celebrity fragrances are up even more with with an incredible 512% increase.

Beauty treatments such as manicures, pedicures, eyebrow shaping and lash applications are also fully booked for the week before the races.

The Grand National’s Ladies Day is a firm fixture on the North West social calendar and is commonly frequented by celebrity WAGs such as Colleen Rooney, Alex Curran and Sheree Murphy.

Sara Stern, director of beauty at Debenhams said, “The ladies of Liverpool are always odds on favourite for getting glammed up and with all this Aintree effort they must be a sure thing in the glamour stakes. Our beauty counters have been inundated with customers eager to pip other race goers to the post, with our deepest tan products and longest lashes the first to fly off the shelves”.

Debenhams said their stores in the North West have also benefitted from a 100% boom in sales of mini-skirted, plunging neckline party dresses. Sales of its highest heels are up 178% and hats and fascinators saw a 69% increase.

Emma Owen, marketing and PR manager at Aintree Racecourse, said: “We’re not at all surprised to hear that sales of beauty products have gone through the roof ahead of Ladies’ Day at the Grand National. The Festival attracts lots of stunning girls who always go to a lot of effort to look their best for the North West’s biggest social day out”.

Debenhams is the second largest department store chain in the UK and has 167 stores in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Denmark.
