Clinton Cards to close a further 17 stores
Administrators for the Clinton Cards and Birthdays chain have confirmed that a further 17 stores will close by the end of the week.
The greeting cards retailer went into administration in May after its supplier American Greetings Corporation bought its £35 milllion debt from its lenders and demanded immediate repayment.
Following the administration American Greetings bought 397 stores which left the remaining 330 under the control of the administrators. A total of 212 stores were closed by the administrators in June and yesterday they announced the closure of an additional 17 stores.
In statement the administrators said: “The joint administrators are still focusing their efforts on the stores identified as part of the closure programme announced on 16 May 2012. As a part of this exercise, the Joint Administrators continue to welcome expressions of interest in the remaining estate.”
