Booker acquires Makro UK
UK food wholesaler Booker Group has completed its acquisition of cash and carry business Makro UK.
The group announced in May that it planned to buy the business from Makro’s German parent company Metro Group in a deal worth £139.7 million.
Charles Wilson, chief executive of Booker, said at the time: “Through working together, Booker and Makro UK will improve choice, prices and service for retailers, caterers and SMEs throughout the UK. Together we will offer a wide range of foods and non-foods to our professional customers, via the internet, delivery and cash and carry. The Board is confident that this collaboration will enable us to continue to generate value for shareholders.”
The deal, which was approved at Booker’s AGM on 2 July and completed yesterday, has resulted in Booker acquiring Makro UK’s 30 stores and all of its operational assets.
