Heal’s and Made.com to have a Midlands presence at Birmingham’s The Mailbox

Furniture and homewares retailers Heal’s and Made.com are to open showrooms at a new 20,000 square foot homewares section at Birmingham’s The Mailbox.

It means that Heal’s will have a Midlands presence for the first time in its 200-year history. As well as furniture, Heal’s stocks lighting, decorative accessories and kitchenware together with a range of lifestyle brands such as Ligne Roset, Vitra, Case and Tom Dixon.

Hamish Mansbridge, chief executive of Heal’s, said: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Heal’s, giving us a new regional flagship store in the Midlands.

“Building on the success of our store at the Redbrick complex in Yorkshire, our Mailbox showroom will offer the finest in furniture design from Heal’s as well as internationally recognised designers and brands. The shop itself will be a unique retail space that will bring the best of our online offering to Birmingham.”

Made.com will also be opening its first Midlands showroom at The Mailbox. Launched in 2010, the brand aims to sell high-end lifestyle design “at a fair price”.

Annabel Kilner, commercial director at Made.com, said: “Having seen great promise from the Made Birmingham pop up, we are delighted to announce the opening of our showroom in the Mailbox. Birmingham is an important city for Made.com and we’re keen to see the impact the bigger location will have on sales.”

The brands will be joined by a collection of other homewares, furnishings and accessories retailers including Danish brand BoConcept and Italian furniture specialist Calligaris.

In addition, The Design Quarter will feature a design-led, curated collection of contemporary furniture including Content by Conran, handmade furniture brand SITS, and upholstered furniture retailer Wesley Barrell.

The new Homewares at the Mailbox offering will complement existing names at The Mailbox including Kitchen Gallery SieMatic, Castle Fine Art and Fine & Country. Lighting specialist iLite is also set to open in the autumn and will feature brands such as Swarovski, Foscarini, Masiero, Diesel, Flos and Schonbek.

Simon Samuels, partner at Brockton Capital, joint owners of the Mailbox with Milligan, said: “We know that our customers are interested in high end contemporary furniture and accessories, and Homewares at the Mailbox will be a must-visit destination for both aspirational and accessible brands. We’re delighted to be welcoming two real interiors heavyweights in Heal’s and Made.com, alongside a host of other brands, as we launch this new offering.”

The Mailbox is home to Harvey Nichols’ 45,000 square foot store, fashion retailers such as Smith, Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein Underwear, Armani Collezioni, Daniel Footwear, L.K. Bennett and Gieves & Hawkes, as well as Ribble Cycle’s first ever flagship showroom.
