B&Q rolls out stoma-friendly toilets to stores nationwide
B&Q has rolled out stoma-friendly toilets across its stores as it looks to ensure that it meets the needs of people living with a stoma.
The new facilities include features such as a hook for clothing or bags, a shelf or flat surface for medical supplies, a disposal bin inside the cubicle, and a mirror so the user can clearly see their stoma and bag when changing.
Subscribe to TRBWith over 200,000 people estimated to be living with a stoma in the UK, the initiative aligns with Colostomy UK’s broader advocacy work to improve accessible toilet provision in retail and public spaces. B&Q’s stoma-friendly facilities will be listed on Colostomy UK’s listings to enable people to plan their visits with confidence and locate suitable toilets in advance.
In addition, B&Q will introduce Stoma Aware training for customer-facing staff, equipping colleagues with the knowledge to better understand stomas and provide appropriate support to customers requiring accessible facilities.
