Glasgow Fort plans 60,000 square foot expansion with bigger M&S
A planning application has been submitted for a 60,000 square foot extension at Glasgow Fort that would expand the centre’s Marks & Spencer store by more than 32,000 square feet, making it one of the largest M&S sites in Scotland.
The plans would also allow owner British Land to introduce a broader leisure offering, with bowling, arcades and other attractions. The application follows two public consultations held last year.
Subscribe to TRBRachel Rankine, regional manager at M&S, said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to significantly expand our Glasgow Fort store and create a standout M&S destination for our customers in Scotland.
“If approved, this extension would allow us to showcase a bigger range of our delicious, trusted value Food and great quality Fashion, Home and Beauty products.
“Glasgow Fort is an important location for us and these plans will help us deliver a modern, spacious and enjoyable shopping experience for our customers.”
In 2025, Glasgow Fort recorded its highest ever visitor numbers and footfall has increased by 8% in the last 12 months. British Land said the growth has been driven by sustained demand across fashion, health and beauty, and food and beverage, as well as the addition of Victoria’s Secret and an expanded River Island Store.
Matt Reed, head of asset management (retail parks) at British Land, said: “This proposed expansion reflects the continued momentum we’re seeing at Glasgow Fort and our confidence in its long-term growth.
“We’re actively managing and evolving the asset to ensure it remains relevant in line with changing consumer behaviours, with a focus on creating a vibrant environment that supports our occupiers while delivering compelling experiences for visitors.
“Subject to approval, these plans will further cement Glasgow Fort’s position as one of the UK’s leading retail park destinations.”
