AS Watson launches Covid-19 staff support package

AS Watson Group has launched a £40 million employee support package to help staff from its Superdrug, Savers and The Perfume Shop chains through the Covid-19 outbreak.

The provisions will include offering full pay to parents who are unable to work “remotely or in another business situation” due to school closures. It will also be giving full pay to any staff members who are unable to work due to sickness or self-isolation.

In addition, employees affected by any distribution centre, service or store closures will be either redeployed in the business or paid in full.

Meanwhile, the company said it will be honouring of all pay increases and bonuses that are due in March and April.

Peter Macnab, chief executive of AS Watson Health & Beauty UK, said:  “The support package aims to give our colleagues financial reassurance. They are working very hard to keep our stores open and to ensure customers’ online purchases are delivered.

“At the moment all of our 1,300 Superdrug and Savers stores, including our 200 pharmacies, remain open and we are seeing a significant increase in online traffic to Superdrug.com and Savers.co.uk for both click & collect and home delivery, as well as the prescription and health advisory services operated by our online doctor.”
