WH Smith peps up marketing offer

Interim marketing director to revamp UK retail marketing
February 25 2004
WHSmith is strengthening its marketing team as it seeks to recover flagging sales.

Stephen Robertson has been appointed interim marketing Director for the UK retail business, a role expected to last for around six months.
His initial focus will be on the strategic direction of the marketing department and driving trading initiatives. He will also be overseeing the media and creative advertising reviews with brand communications director Katie Spriggs.
Robertson joins WHSmith from Kingfisher where he held positions over the last ten years including, marketing director of B&Q plc and managing director of Kingfisher DIY Direct.
Sue Wharton, commercial director of WH Smith UK Retail said: “At a time when the business is undergoing a considerable amount of change, we wanted to bring in someone who can deliver direction and leadership to our current marketing team, whilst we continue our recruitment process.
“Stephen’s experience means he is an exceptionally talented retailer and marketeer, assets that WHSmith will benefit from in both the short- and long-term.”
