Shoppers take to the streets

Shoppers have taken to the streets in their droves in the last few days, despite poor weather conditions, and fear of battling through crowds.

The gap on last year has narrowed day-by-day this week and has now almost disappeared and with the extra day of shopping this year before Christmas Day itself, retailers are set to see record numbers of shoppers out tomorrow on Christmas Eve.
SPSL still sees no need to revise its forecast that shopper numbers during the month of December will be down by 2.4% on the same month in 2005, despite a slow start to the month.
Wednesday 20th week-on-week: +31.1%;
Wednesday 20th year-on-year (vs 21st Dec 2005): -5.0%;
Thursday 21st week-on-week: +34.9%;
Thursday 21st year-on-year (vs 22nd Dec 2005): -2.0%;
Friday 22nd week-on-week: +37.0%
Friday 22nd year-on-year (vs 23rd Dec 2005): -0.1%
