Retailers urged to review security strategy following significant rise in theft

The National Security Inspectorate is urging retailers to review their security strategy, after the British Retail Consortium Retail Crime Survey revealed that thefts from shops increased by a third between 2008-2009.

Julian Stanton, Spokesman for NSI commented: “It’s crucial that retailers continue to evaluate the security measures that they have in place and, where necessary, take action to reduce the risk of theft. Whilst many businesses may be watching their expenditure in the current economic climate, cutting back on security spending could be short sighted, particularly in the light of this recent increase in retail crime.”

NSI recommends contacting and requesting quotes from at least three NSI approved installers, providing them with details of any insurer requirements. These companies should visit your premises to conduct a bespoke risk assessment before submitting a quote.
