EG Group to divest French operations

EG Group, the international operator of convenience retail, foodservice and fuel stations, is to sell its French operating business to co-founder and shareholder Zuber Issa as part of a broader strategic exit from the French market.

The deal will include the company selling 260 sites to EG On The Move as it looks to focus on its core growth markets and strengthen its balance sheet. EG On The Move has entered into a put option to acquire the sites.

EG Group is jointly owned by Issa, his brother Mohsin and private equity firm TDR Capital. The move forms part of the group’s broader withdrawal from France, a staged divestment programme that began with the sale of its Vitry fuel depot, which completed in December 2025.

In addition,, the group has entered into agreements to sell certain sites, primarily in the Paris area, to property developers for alternative use. The sales are expected to complete over the next twelve months.

Meanwhile, the transaction with EG On The Move is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2026.

Russ Colaco, chief executive of EG Group, said: “These transactions are a continued demonstration of our commitment to strengthening EG Group’s balance sheet through debt reduction and a disciplined approach to portfolio management.

“By strategically reshaping our European footprint, we are bringing additional focus to our core markets where we have identified the most attractive organic growth opportunities.

“I would like to thank our employees supporting the French business for their many contributions to EG group.”

Last month, EG Group announced that Stuart Rose had stepped down as chair ahead of its planned flotation in New York later this year.
