Majestic hires former Sainsbury’s buyer Julie Buckley
Majestic Wine has appointed former Sainsbury’s and Oddbins buyer, Julie Buckley, to its buying team.
A Spanish wine expert, Buckley has joined Majestic as senior buyer with responsibility for some of the retailer’s best selling categories including New Zealand, Spain and Burgundy.
With over ten years’ wine buying experience for some of the UK’s biggest retailers, Buckley has been brought in following Majestic’s move towards own-label and parcel buying in recent years, two areas in which she has a proven track record.
Richard Weaver, buying and merchandising director at Majestic, said Buckley’s eight years at Oddbins and seven at Sainsbury’s made her an ideal candidate for the job. He added: “There’s nothing Julie doesn’t know about Spanish wine, this will be her third senior position buying the category. I’m delighted to have her on board and can’t wait to see how she takes our range forward.”
In addition, Majestic has promoted Joe Aylmer to the role of buyer where he will be responsible for South America, the Rhône, Portugal, fortified wines and wine magnums.
