GDK appoints JD Sports executive as chief marketing officer

German Doner Kebab has appointed former JD Sports executive Chris Waters as its new chief marketing officer.

Waters has worked with the sportswear retailer for the last three years, most recently as European brand director. Prior to that, he held senior marketing roles at Morrisons and Asda.

Backed by True and Hero Brands, GDK is poised to accelerate growth in the UK and abroad as it continues to focus on building its Gen-Z focussed brand rooted in music, sport and popular culture.

Simon Wallis, chief executive of GDK, said: ” We are thrilled to welcome Chris to the GDK family. His blend of retail rigor and creative brand leadership is exactly what we need to connect powerfully with our primary Gen Z customer base and drive the next phase of growth.

“Chris’s experience and vision will be invaluable as we continue to build a brand that resonates deeply with younger audiences while maintaining our strong retail discipline.”

Waters took up his new role on 1 September.
