Vinted launches Item Verification service

Online C2C marketplace Vinted is launching its Item Verification service in the UK to increase trust in the authenticity of higher-priced  second-hand items and combat counterfeiting.

Vinted’s Item Verification service is an optional paid service to check the authenticity of selected designer items, carried out by a trained and experienced team of Vinted verification experts.

The service costs £10 per item for eligible brands listed at £100 or above. It is paid for by buyers and is free for sellers. The fee includes the verification service fee and shipping costs from the seller to the verification hub. The shipping from the verification hub to the buyer is covered by a regular shipping cost that buyers see at the checkout. Additional Vinted Buyer Protection fee continues to apply to all items.

Members will see a banner with a diamond-shaped Item Verification badge once they choose an eligible listing.

At launch, the service will be available for items listed in the Bags, Shoes, Accessories and Jewellery categories priced at £100 and above, and across dozens of brands including Christian Louboutin, Gucci and Prada. The service will gradually introduce more brands and categories.

Expertise shoppers can rely on

Vinted’s dedicated team of verification experts brings together over five decades of experience and accumulated knowledge about thousands of designer brands. After Vinted’s acquisition of Germany-based luxury resale platform Rebelle in 2022, the two teams have joined forces to bring Rebelle’s expertise for item verification to Vinted members as well. The team of experts carefully examines eligible items purchased on Vinted at its newly established and growing verification hub in London.

Affordable authenticity

The service is optional for buyers and is designed to be as financially accessible as possible, so shoppers aren’t priced out of being able to shop for second-hand designer items with greater confidence. The service is free for sellers, so gives them additional confidence when selling designer items, whilst buyers can trust that their items are authentic and have passed additional verification by trained experts.

We understand that authenticity and trust are paramount in the world of online second-hand shopping and we believe this should be accessible to all. That’s why we’ve worked hard to provide our reliable verification service for designer pieces at an affordable price. Since Vinted was founded 15 years ago, our commitment has always been to make second-hand fashion the first choice for everyone and we see this new service being a significant step forward in our ambition to provide our community with the utmost confidence.” says Adam Jay, CEO of Vinted marketplace.
