Specsavers announces huge expansion in Canada
Specsavers is expanding its presence in Canada with the opening of 111 new locations within Loblaw stores.
The move comes less than four years after the brand launched its first store in the country.
Subscribe to TRBOffering customers access to advanced eye care services, including Optical Coherence Tomography scans, the new locations will open in selected Loblaw grocery stores, including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and Zehrs.
Following the openings, Specsavers will have a total of 269 sites in Canada and will have entered five new provinces and one territory in the country.
Doug Perkins CBE, co-founder of Specsavers, said: ‘When we started Specsavers more than 40 years ago from a table tennis table at home in Guernsey, we never imagined that one day we’d be employing over 45,000 people in 11 countries and helping 48 million customers to see and hear more clearly.
“This move into Loblaw grocery stores is a proud moment for us – not just because of the scale, but because it’s another step towards delivering accessible, expert eye care in the heart of the community. Our mission has always been to change lives through better sight – and this new chapter helps us to do just that.”
Each new store will be run by qualified independent optometrists and opticians, who will provide comprehensive eye exams, prescription glasses, contact lenses and specialist services.
Specsavers will be replacing the existing Theodore & Pringle optical brand in Loblaws stores.
Irene Doody, head of optical at Loblaw Companies, said: ‘Theodore & Pringle was born from the belief that eye care should be convenient and affordable for everyone.

The first Specsavers locations inside Loblaw stores are set to open in September, with more launching later in the year.
