H&M opens first store in Rio de Janeiro

H&M has opened its first store in Rio de Janeiro as part of its Latin American growth strategy.

The opening at the Riosul shopping centre follows the fashion retailer’s entry into Brazil in 2025 with a store in São Paulo and the launch of a local ecommerce platform.

Daniel Ervér, chief executive of H&M Group, said: “Rio de Janeiro marks a key step in H&M’s expansion in Latin America and reinforces our commitment to growth in Brazil.

“We see strong potential in this vibrant market and are excited to continue this love story by liberating fashion for the many.”

Joaquim Lopes, country manager of H&M Brazil, added: “We are very excited to connect with the Rio audience, which has a unique relationship with fashion.

“The arrival in Rio de Janeiro marks an important step in H&M’s expansion in Brazil, and still in 2026 we will open another store in the city, further strengthening our local presence.”

H&M opened its first store in Latin America in Mexico in 2012 and also has a presence in El Salvador, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, and Venezuela.

The company will launch its first store in Paraguay later this year and will also expand into Argentina in 2027 with its franchise partner Hola Moda.
