Cutler and Gross upsizes on New York’s Mercer Street

British eyewear brand Cutler and Gross has upsized to a larger store on New York’s Mercer Street following ten years in the Soho location.

The 2,400 square-foot space at 71 Mercer Street represents a new look for the brand which will be rolled out across its other five locations.

Designed by brothers Chris Leong and Dominic Leong of New York-based architecture studio Leong Leong, the interior aims to celebrate the brand’s British roots in 1960s London. The store features props by London designers from the 60s and 70s, as well as emerging talent such as Philippe Malouin and Axel and Mélissa Chay.

Works by Matthew Hilton, Verner Panton and ceramicist Nicola Tassi  are also included.

Cutler and Gross chief executive  Jack Dooley said: “New York has always been important to Cutler and Gross as a melting pot of fashion, music, art, and literature.

“It was Tony Gross’s favourite city and provided the backdrop and inspiration for his earliest collections. We are delighted to be opening our new flagship store, which will carry the widest range of our products, from archive styles to retail exclusives and bespoke frames.”
