Aldi is a discount grocery chain that started in Germany in 1948, when Karl and Theo Albrecht took over their mother’s store in Essen.

Aldi is a discount grocery chain that started in Germany in 1948, when Karl and Theo Albrecht took over their mother’s store in Essen. The name Albrecht Diskont was later shortened to Aldi. The company stocks virtually all own-brand products which are offered at very low prices thanks to exclusive deals with suppliers, many of which are big name producers. There are currently an estimated 11,235 locations worldwide, spread across 20 different countries. In 1960, the business was split into two groups, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. They have been financially and legally separate since 1966. Aldi Nord has a red, white and blue logo whereas Aldi Sud has a blue, yellow and orange logo that is seen all across the UK. Aldi Nord operates in France, Portugal, Spain and Aldi Sud has stores in the UK, China, Italy, and Australia. Both types of store can be seen in Germany and Aldi Nord in the US goes by the Trade Joe’s name. There are currently around 930 Aldi stores in the UK and the company is aiming to have 1,200 by 2025. The shops are widely known for their cheap prices and good service. Aldi products and services:

Following the passing of the Albrecht brothers, the company has been passed down through the generations of the family. The ownership group is now titled Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Co.
