IKEA pilots car boot sale concept in Milton Keynes and Cardiff

IKEA will be piloting fun car boot sale events in its carparks in Milton Keynes and Cardiff this weekend.

The move forms part of the retailer’s sustainability plans.

Due to take place on 2 and 3 September between 9am and 12pm, the events are designed to help customers prolong the life of their pre-loved belongings.

Members of the public who want to sell their secondhand home furnishing goods can request a free space* via email in advance of the events. However, items such as clothing, electronics and food will not be accepted.

David Manser, store manager at IKEA Milton Keynes, said: “We’re excited to be hosting the first event of its kind for IKEA and are proud to be getting the local community together to sell, buy, explore and keep good things going. We want to make the passing on of pre-loved items as easy and enjoyable as possible, and by providing the opportunity for people to resell the items they no longer need, brings benefits to the community, the environment and wallets.”

IKEA has pledged free refreshments for stall owners over the course of the car boot weekends, with coupons also available for hot food. The events are free to attend.

Manser added: “If you have recently had a clear out, are looking to refresh your home, or are simply looking for something fun to do, why not come along this weekend and play your part in the sustainable loop.”

*As of 1/9/2023, all slots have now been filled and IKEA is no longer accepting requests.
