IKEA launches second-hand marketplace in UK for pre-owned furniture
IKEA has launched its second-hand marketplace in the UK to enable customers to buy and sell pre-owned IKEA products, including items that may no longer be available in stores.
The marketplace complements IKEA’s existing Buyback & Resell service, introduced in 2021, which allows customers to sell eligible products back to IKEA in exchange for in-store credit.

Emily Birkin, development & transformation manager at Ingka Group, said: “At IKEA, our vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people, and that means making well-designed, functional home furnishing more accessible at different stages of life and across different budgets.
“The second-hand marketplace is another way we can help more people access IKEA products at affordable prices, while giving customers a simple way to pass on items they no longer need.”
Customers can list current and discontinued IKEA home furnishing products on the marketplace, excluding mattresses, appliances and food. Listings include photographs, product descriptions, assembly instructions and care information to help buyers make informed purchases.
IKEA said the launch comes as second-hand shopping becomes an increasingly established part of consumer spending. The retailer cited figures showing that 63% of UK consumers bought products through resale platforms in 2025, up from 51% in the previous year.
Greg Lucas, sustainability manager, IKEA UK & Ireland, said: “Whether they are moving, redecorating or looking for a particular piece, more customers are considering pre-owned furniture alongside new and are actively searching for items that can help create a home that feels personal to them.
“IKEA products are designed to be used, maintained and enjoyed over time, and the second-hand marketplace, as well as our in-store buyback service, gives people a straightforward way to pass on items as their needs change, with the practical information they need to buy and sell with confidence.”
