Dunelm reports “another successful year”

Dunelm has posted an uplift in full year sales and profit as it reached a milestone of its 200th store opening.

In the year to 28 June, sales increased by 3.8% year-on-year to £1.77 billion after the retailer grew its share of the combined homewares and furniture markets.

Meanwhile, pre-tax profit rose by 2.7% to £211 million.

During the period, Dunelm continued to invest for long-term growth with the opening of six new superstores, including one relocation, and its first store in inner London

It also completed two acquisitions including the 13-store retailer Home Focus in Ireland, and the brand and archive of Designers Guild.

Nick Wilkinson, Dunelm chief executive, said: “In my final set of results at Dunelm, I’m pleased to report another successful year, marked by growth in sales and profits, increased market share and meaningful strategic progress.

“This has also been a year of milestones for our business; opening our 200th store and first inner London location, expanding Click & Collect, extending our UK Made-to-Measure manufacturing, entering our first market outside the UK, and buying the brand and archive of Designers Guild.

“All these investments are centred on creating a better offer and experience for our customers.”

Dunelm said it was pleased with trading in the early part of its new financial year as customers are responding well to its new autumn/winter ranges.

The retailer will be making a Dunelm app available to shoppers this autumn and will continue to invest in new stores.

Wilkinson added: “As I move on, I leave behind a special business, with a strong business model, well positioned for the future.

“Dunelm is evolving as a multi-category and multi-channel specialist, The Home of Homes, making good progress towards its next market share milestone of 10%.

“With customers at our heart, and a commitment to long-term, sustainable growth, Dunelm is still just getting started.”
